Christ Church

Welcome to your church this festival of Pentecost! The day that the Holy Spirit descended like tongues of fire on the disciples, and inspiring them to bear the light of Jesus to the the whole of humankind, Pentecost is seen as the birthday of the church here on earth. The day that the fire started, the fire that should burn within all Christians inspiring us all to spread the word of the gospel, and to demonstrate it with our love for God and for our neighbours.

This Sunday we  comoe together as a Benefice at St Mary's Church in Portbury with a service of Holy Communion at 10.30am.

If you would like a lift to the service, please contact a fellow church member.

For those unable to attend  this service, Astrid has prepared a sermon which becomes live on Sunday Morning, so please click n the link below. A copy of her sermon can be downloaded from our news section.

Our readings are:

Ezekiel Chapter 37, verses 1-14 The Valley of the Dry Bones

Acts  Chapter 2: verses 1-21 The coming of the Holy Spirit, and Peter's sermon.

John Chapter 15 verses 26-27 and Chapter 16, 4b to 15 The Work of the Holy Spirit

At Pentecost, we await the coming of the Holy Spirit to inspire each of us  to become torch bearers bringing the light of the Gospel to all people.

God of power,
may the boldness of your Spirit transform us,
may the gentleness of your Spirit lead us,
may the gifts of your Spirit
be our goal and our strength,
now and always.

 Amen.
